FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F’IS) is a subsidiary of Schaeffler KG, one of the world’s largest rolling bearing manufacturers. F’IS realised at an early stage that RFID technology could add considerable value to their maintenance management solutions. Their FAG Detector III is already available with integrated RFID transponders. It is used in the measurement of, in particular, rotating parts and components, such as rolling bearings. Offline monitoring devices compliment their online solutions and are used, together with information stored on the RFID tag, to obtain and record measurements at consistent intervals and points. This is essential for the early recognition and remedy of defects; helping to avoid shutdowns and expensive consequential damage.
