ALBA is switching from RFID transponders to user-friendly NFC transponders from smart-TEC. The big advantage: ALBA customers will be able to easily book waste disposal services via smartphone in future.
ALBA is one of the leading environmental service providers and raw materials suppliers in Europe. The company generates an annual turnover of around 1.3 billion euros and employs over 5,000 people. With these dimensions, untraceable containers and problems in the logistics chain can certainly occur. ALBA therefore relies on smart solutions to connect containers, compactors and hazardous waste containers.Labeling with RFID transponders
In concrete terms, it works like this: in addition to the nine-digit container number, which uniquely identifies each container, ALBA uses a technology that is familiar from modern ID cards or contactless payment. When the RFID transponder is read with an RFID industrial reader, a connection is automatically established to an app developed by ALBA, which records the location of the container and forwards the unique number of the RFID transponder to the company's own resource planning program (ERP system). The ERP system links the RFID transponder number with the container number, which means that all changes are automatically entered into the system.
The RFID technology supports internal logistics by providing a constantly updated overview of container locations and availability, enabling better capacity planning. Accurate invoicing with customers and dynamic planning can be easily implemented.
AlBA has been relying on smart networking in the logistics chain for ten years. Almost all containers used are now equipped with RFID transponders from smart-TEC. It is very important that the RFID transponders used can withstand the sometimes extreme weather conditions, high mechanical loads and high temperatures. ALBA relies on its proven partnership with smart-TEC from Oberhaching near Munich.
New labeling - switch to NFC technology
To ensure that mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets can be used as readers in the future, ALBA is switching from RFID to NFC transponders. The RFID transponders currently in use are gradually being replaced by NFC transponders. The use of NFC technology also has the advantage that ALBA customers will be able to easily book waste disposal services via smartphone in future.
The NFC transponders from the smart-DOME Freestyle range from smart-TEC also meet all requirements: they are robust, can withstand all weather conditions and can be customized in terms of shape, design, technology and attachment method. As they have been designed for the toughest conditions - e.g. waste water, dirt, heat or cold - they are the ideal solution for ALBA. This NFC transponder also impresses with its certification for use in potentially explosive environments.
