VEGA Grieshaber KG is setting new standards in industrial sensor identification with the integration of RFID tags from the smart-DOME 3010 series from smart-TEC. The VEGAPULS 6X radar level sensor not only offers maximum precision, but can also be clearly identified even under the toughest operating conditions - regardless of wear or environmental influences.
RFID technology: sustainable and reliable
Robust RFID tags enable sensors to be reliably identified and tracked even after years of use. "With an RFID tag, our sensors can be reliably tracked even after intensive use," explains Stefan Kaspar, Product Manager at VEGA. This is a decisive advantage over traditional methods such as punched tags or barcodes, which often reach their limits under extreme conditions.
The RFID tags developed by smart-TEC are embedded in a special, resistant material that remains readable even under high mechanical, thermal and chemical loads. Thanks to various mounting options - from magnets to special adhesives - the tags can be flexibly attached to a wide variety of surfaces.
RFID tags: the foundation for the digital twin
The smart-DOME Freestyle 3010 marks a milestone for VEGA on the road to digitalization. As the basis for the so-called "digital twin", the RFID tag stores information directly on site at the sensor and makes it contactless retrievable. The digital twin enables a virtual representation of the sensor over its entire life cycle and supports decision-making with real-time data.
Measurement point identification for greater safety
The RFID tags can be individually labeled and thus offer additional benefits, such as specific measurement point identification. This function provides orientation, reduces operating errors and facilitates assignment to documentation.
Uniform standards for process automation
The development of RFID sensor identification follows the international standards IEC 61406 and the specifications of the Digital Data Chain Consortium (DDCC). This cross-manufacturer consortium ensures that plant operators can identify their assets quickly and clearly by simply scanning a QR code or contactless reading of the RFID tag.
Conclusion: innovation, maximum robustness and transparency
The combination of VEGA sensors and smart-TEC RFID tags creates a pioneering solution for industrial sensor identification. Whether in the chemical, oil and gas industry or drinking water supply: The innovative RFID technology ensures maximum transparency, robustness and efficiency - while also forming the basis for digital transformation in process automation.
