smart-TEC joins the Bluetooth® SIG
26.03.2026Strategic focus on Bluetooth® Low Energy

smart-TEC becomes a member of the Bluetooth® SIG, further expanding its expertise in energy-efficient wireless communication. The Bluetooth SIG continuously develops and publishes the technical specifications of Bluetooth technology, thereby strengthening a globally standardized ecosystem.
Our main interest is Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth® LE / BLE): BLE is designed for particularly low energy consumption and is therefore ideal for battery-powered applications such as sensors, LEDs and IoT devices. It enables the wireless transmission of small amounts of data and requires significantly less energy than classic Bluetooth.
BLE devices communicate their presence, function and connection status to their surroundings by regularly sending out advertising packets. Beacons are a particularly energy-saving form of these advertisements: They can be recognized and interpreted by devices in the environment without the need to establish a permanent bidirectional connection. There are various beacon formats that can be used to transmit an ID, a URL or telemetry data such as battery voltage and temperature, for example.
With this membership, we are consistently expanding our expertise in this area - and creating the basis for the development and production of our own BLE transponders in combination with a wide variety of sensors such as temperature, voltage, pressure and humidity.
BLE benefits at a glance
- Simple and very cost-effective infrastructure through the use of smartphones or available BLE gateways as a "reading or recording device"
- The BLE frequency range is available worldwide, therefore no regional (ETSI, FCC) product adaptations necessary
- Reliability and interoperability through the use of a proven and standardized technology
- Standardized data formats (iBeacon, Eddystone) are available alongside proprietary formats for the beacons used, i.e. they can be easily captured with any smartphone
- High ranges (even over 50 m with line-of-sight) thanks to active technology, meaning sufficient reserves for operation in metallic environments
BLE transponders have already been developed and produced at our plant in Mindelheim (Allgäu) based on initial customer inquiries.
