EU Machinery Regulation 2027: Why Digital Nameplates Are Becoming More Important Now
18.08.2026Our solution for meeting the requirements of the new EU regulation.

The new EU Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 will take effect on January 20, 2027. For the first time, the regulation permits the digital provision of operating instructions and conformity documents.
Unique Identification as the Foundation
One of the key requirements of the new Machinery Regulation is the unique identification of machinery. Standards such as IEC 61406 or the GS1 Digital Link lay the foundation for this and simultaneously enable access to digital information as well as future Digital Product Passport solutions.
From Compliance to Real Added Value
For machine manufacturers, this is not just about meeting regulatory requirements. Digital nameplates enable manufacturers and their customers to:
- Faster access to documentation
- More efficient maintenance and service processes
- Reduction in paper documents
- Improved traceability of machines and systems
- Optimal preparation for the Digital Product Passport
- Better interface with customer after-sales and service
Our Solution – Digital Nameplates with Integrated RFID/NFC Technology
The digital nameplates in the smart-PLATE product family are designed for a wide range of industrial requirements and can be customized to the specific application environment and labeling task.
This product family consists of nameplates made of aluminum, stainless steel, or plastic with integrated NFC/HF technology (13.56 MHz) or UHF RFID technology (860–960 MHz), or a combination of both technologies. The shape, size, and mounting method are customized to each customer’s needs.
Our smart-PLATE solutions can also be printed or laser-engraved with QR codes, plain text, or logos. This makes our smart-PLATE product line the perfect solution for securely, durably, and uniquely identifying machines, systems, devices, and components.
Our Conclusion
Although the EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 is not a DPP law, it clearly shows the direction in which developments are heading: documentation, proof of conformity, service information, and product data will have to be available digitally in the future. With digital nameplates as well as RFID, NFC, and QR code solutions, smart-TEC helps companies efficiently meet these requirements while simultaneously creating new value for customers and service processes. It is important to position oneself early on, and the DPP forms the basis for all upcoming developments and requirements.
