What is the rail clamp and how is it used?

A rail clamp made of a robust hardened steel alloy is attached directly to the rail base, next to or below each weld seam. This special metal nameplate with laser-engraved QR code and clear text is extremely resistant to weathering, chemicals and mechanical stress. It can be easily attached to the rail base with a hammer - without any glue or screws. In cooperation with GS1 Switzerland and various railroad operators, the rail clamp from smart-TEC was tested under realistic extreme conditions - in sub-zero temperatures in Norway as well as in high ambient temperatures in southern Europe.

smart-TEC offers GS1-compliant coding solutions for the railroad sector, including HF, UHF and 2D code technologies

All smart-TEC coding solutions are customizable in terms of shape, size, imprint, frequency and material. Years of field tests have proven their reliability and durability. The fastening options are also diverse and can be flexibly adapted to the respective application scenarios.

Outlook with regard to the Digital Product Passport (DPP)
Rail markings are becoming increasingly important, particularly in light of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) prescribed by the European Union. The planned revision of the Construction Products Regulation (revCPR) and the Ecodesign Directive (ESPR) will require energy-intensive construction products to be linked to globally unique identification codes and corresponding data in future.

This structured data will be provided by the responsible companies in a database so that all stakeholders along the entire product life cycle can access it.
